Why Atlanta Pest Control Matters

Atlanta pest control
For anyone considering Atlanta pest control, it is good to know that there are a number of benefits when it comes to professional pest control.  Pest control does matter.

When using professional pest control services, residents can rest easy knowing that the company they choose has experienced, trained technicians who understand exactly how and where to treat in order to get rid of any type of pest, be it an insect or rodent.

Plans

One way that pest control can really pay off is in purchasing an annual plan. This ensures that the professionals will be there several times a year, to keep the pests at bay.  This also means that homeowners can rest easy, knowing that their homes are safe from termites. If termites or carpenter ants were to go unnoticed, it could results in thousands of dollars worth of damage to the home.  Pest control costs are very small in comparison.

Safety

Pest control technicians know how to safely use their products and exactly where to put them inside and outside of a home.  This keeps families and pets safe.  Oftentimes, when one does pest control himself, harmful chemicals can be put in the wrong places.  Professional pest control offers peace of mind that no hazardous chemicals will affect people or pets.

Time and Flexibility

Most pest control companies work on homeowners' schedules, making it easy to have treatments or retreatments done when they are needed.

Additionally, when a professional is involved, they will remember to monitor and report whenever it is time to retreat the home.   Homeowners who choose to do it themselves often do not know the correct times to retreat or re-spray for bugs, and it is only when they see more pests that they do something about it.

Risks

Using the wrong elimination method can have consequences.  If homeowners are not sure how to treat the problem at hand, there could be consequences (such as swarming bees, more ants, etc).  With a professional on hand, there will never be any question.

Pest control really matters when it comes to the health of one's family and pets. Calling a professional means never wondering what to do.

Calling Atlanta pest control also means saving time and money as the professionals guarantee their services. They will rid the home of insects and rodents.

Termites in Atlanta, Georgia

Thinking of looking for Atlanta pest control, but not sure if you have termites?  There are two different kinds of termites in Atlanta, the subterranean termite and the drywood termite. Both can do a great deal of damage to a home.

Subterranean Termites

Subterranean termites are so named because they live underground, and they need contact with the soil.  They love both the temperature and moisture of the soil, and these two things help keep them alive.

Subterranean actually means 'underground' and this is where you will find their colonies.  These termites are the most widely spread type in this country, and are responsible for most of the damage to homes in the United States.

Sometimes, you will find Formosan termites in Georgia, too, but they are not common.  This is actually a type of subterranean termite, and is the most aggressive of all termites.  They do a billion dollars worth of damage to homes in the US every year, but again, are not common in Atlanta.

If you see flying swarms of termites, or mud tubes, these are most likely subterranean.  These can be controlled through several measures; calling a pest control specialist at the first sign is important.

Drywood Termites

Drywood termites are most commonly found in the southern states, such as Georgia.  These termites are typically bigger than the subterranean termites and do not typically live in the ground. You will usually find these termites living in whatever they are feeding on, be it a tree, your front porch, or even your hardwood floors.

When you see swarms of drywood termites, you will know that you have an infestation. However, it is important to note that swarms of these termites are actually small, so do not overlook them.

Signs of Termites?Make sure to look for Atlanta pest control today if you have any of these termites, or fear that you do.  Termites can do expensive damage to a home, and quickly. Call today!

Termite Damage and Rodent Control in Marietta, Georgia

11/26/2013

Marietta is one of the few US cities with mild weather almost year round, and that means potential pests inside and outside the home. Mosquitoes, ants, and cockroaches are common insects that require pest control. Safe outdoor pest control is important for children and pets, and Marietta pest control experts can even help with solutions that are non-toxic.

Some pests damage a home. Termites are among the most difficult to remove. Many home builders and renovators use products that repel termites. These treatments last up to five years, and repeated treatments are necessary.

Termite colonies are social, much like bee colonies with workers, soldiers, and a queen. Queen termites can live up to 25 years, but the workers and soldiers are fragile with no hard outer skeleton. Detecting termite damage is not easy because it happens under the surface. Homeowners can look for decayed wood and tube-like indentations on wood or structures leading to wood. Alates, flying soldiers, shed their wings, which can be found on the ground near nests.

An expert in Marietta pest control can use probes and cameras to see termite activity under the surface.

One strategy for termite removal is to use chemicals to kill and repel them. While some chemicals that kill ants and roaches also kill termites, it is important to have the proper training and experience in handling these chemicals. Consult with a professional in Marietta pest control before attempting to apply chemicals. Pesticides can be dangerous to humans and pets.

It’s easy to be bugged in Marietta, but what happens when pests are rodents? Rodents are dangerous because they carry diseases that can be harmful to humans. Parasites are also a problem with rats, mice, and wildlife.

Rodents are incontinent. This means that they urinate and defecate wherever they are. In this way they contaminate anything they come into contact with, including kitchen counters, dishes, food, bedding and furniture. Even beams in your attic and drywall can be contaminated and will need to be removed. Help from a Marietta pest control expert is recommended.

Removing rodents has dangers aside from contamination.

  • Bites are painful and can cause serious diseases.
  • Scratches can become infected by bacteria carried by rodents.
  • Rodents can carry parasites that can be transmitted to humans.

It is always recommended to consult with an expert before attempting to deal with rodent removal.

Ants and Termites in Atlanta, Georgia

Ants
When it gets warmer, the number of ants and termites in Atlanta, GA increase, along with cockroaches, spiders, and any number of other insects. Before you can execute a treatment, however, you have to know what kind of pest you're dealing with. Ants and termites in particular are easily confused, and when they might be doing damage to your house its especially crucial to be able to tell and get help quickly.

Both ants and termites in Atlanta, GA swarm, and both are winged, and thus it's easy to mix them up. However there are a couple of key differences:

  • One of the biggest indicators is the color: ants are usually black or very dark, and termites are lighter: brown or a cream color. A quick color check may be able to tell you immediately.
  • Ants have narrow waists with a clear separation between the abdomen and the thorax. The waist will appear constricted. Termites have bodies shaped closer to perfect ovals, with more clear constrictions visible.
  • Termite wings are of equal size and length, while the wings of ants are unequal: their hind wings are shorter, with a longer front wing.
  • Ant antennae are bent and longer, while termite antennae are short and straight.
  • You can also easily tell the difference between the two by what they eat. If the pests you see are going after food in your house, they are ants; ants will eat almost anything. Termites eat only wood, including paper products.

Keep in mind that several kinds of ants are active in Georgia: Carpenter Ants, House Ants, Argentine Ants, and Fire Ants can all be found. Generally, ants are most active at night during spring or fall when the weather is more mild. They are often seen foraging for food.

Likewise, there are three main species of termites in Georgia: the Eastern Subterranean Termites, Formosan Subterranean Termites, and West Indian Powderpost Termites. Termites generally swarm on warm days after rainfall. They may also swarm in a heated building during winter. Different species can swarm year round however, so it's important to check regularly.

It can be dangerous to disturb a nest of termites or a colony of ants, particularly fire ants. Find a local Atlanta pest control professional to help you dispose of large colonies, and to prevent further colonies from developing.

Did Your Pest Control Company Harm Your Household Pet?

2/16/2013

Picture
Albeit rare, there are times when the work of an exterminator can accidentally harm, and in some instances, kill your household pet. Obviously, this is not something anyone wants to have happen to them. This page will serve as a guide to help you the customer know what to ask your pest control expert when you are shopping for the best pest control experience you can have.
Protecting Your Pets from Pest Control Hazards
Our pets, by and large, are a part of our families. They, for many people, are the children in the home and it is up to pet owners to protect them and keep them safe from harm. Unfortunately, the need for pest control is a normal part of life, too, and these two necessities don't always mix well. In recent years many have taken to the Internet to speak about pest control outfitters, in the process of taking care of a pest infestation, unwittingly poisoned a pet. The guilt and grief that comes with a poisoned pet is unimaginable. Thankfully, there are ways to ensure pets are kept safe during the pest control process.

The importance of proper pest control, pets that are poisoned by pest control measures, are a consideration that must be thought of before picking the proper pest control option. Pet owners are advised to be diligent when dealing with pest control. While all pest control outfitters mean well when they enter a home, not all are going to be forth coming with pet owners about the safety of the solutions and pest control measures that they are using. That is why doing proper research and understanding what the potential measures that will be used in your home is important to keeping pets safe and sound during the pest control or extermination experience.
For starters, keep in mind the type of pest control you are planning to use.  For example, is it rodent control, termite control, ant control, etc?  Most termite control jobs entail placing baiting systems outside your house (as this Youtube video shows).  This type of pest control, by design, is a lot less likely to harm your pets, because the poison is buried into the ground. However, if your lawn service, or dog digs up the baiting system, it stands a chance of harming your animal.  Although this example is unlikely, it is not outside the realm of happenstance.  Ask your service professional all about the poisons that go into your ground or home, only then will you know the likelihood of what can go wrong, and what you can do to prevent it from happening.
After you've considered the importance of proper pest control, pets that are poisoned, you, etc. You must aim to keep your animal safe. The first step is to find a pest control company that uses poison that is not harmful to traditional pets, like this local Atlanta pest control company. Most companies try their best not to harm any animals, but better to not be the fool who didn't ask.  It is also important, if you are an exotic pet owner, to share the information with the professional you are working with. Ask questions and ask for referrals from friends who have had pest control outfitters in their homes with their pets.

Keeping our pets safe is serious business, but keeping pests out of a home is, too. Many pet owners feel stuck between a rock and a hard place, but they don't have to. By following these simple tips, and working with a safe outfitter you can rid yourself of vermin and keep your pets safe in the process.
