Atlanta Pest Infestations

There are already a plethora of different types of annoying little bugs and pests to be  found in the Metro Atlanta area (spiders, roaches, fire ants, rats, termites, etc.) that are enough to make the average homeowner cringe. Recently, however, Atlanta has been rocked with the invasion of not one, but TWO insect species. Now, more than ever, homeowners are in need of an effective Atlanta pest control service to keep their homes bug free.

In the past five years, there has been an invasion of ugly, brown, stinky, ladybug lookalike creatures, better known as kudzu bugs, who are aiming to make their presence known in front of houses all over metro Atlanta. Originally from Asia, this invasive species is believed to have come to the Western world, by way of plane, to Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. Since their discovery in 2009, kudzu bugs have spread to over seven states.  Apparently, they  are thriving here in America  and their irritating presence is being felt  in neighborhoods all over metro Atlanta.

Although kudzu bugs don't bite or sting, they are annoying because of the foul odor that they emit, and because of their tendency to cluster on light colored buildings and clothing. Unfortunately, these brazen little pests don't seem to have any fear of human beings. Additionally, they have a tendency to seek shelter inside  of homes and will bring their horrible stench with them. Once inside the home, they are even harder to get rid of. The homeowner will require  the help of a professional Atlanta pest  control technician in order to remove the problem  effectively.

On a lighter note, there is one  positive benefit to the  presence of the kudzu bug;  it destroys the parasitic kudzu vine  (also from Asia) that kills our native plants. However, it's  fairly certain that this fact will not be a comfort to any homeowner that happens to find clusters of kudzu bugs on their property.

The second infestation that seems to be plaguing the  residents of the  metro  Atlanta  area are bed bugs;  those evil, blood  sucking little  monsters  that  we sung about  as little kids are back. Bed bugs are small parasitic pests feed on the blood  of humans and other hosts;  creatures  like birds and bats. They are nocturnal insects  so it is very rare to see them during the day. In fact, many people are not even aware of a bed bug infestation until it has already grown out of control.

Did you know that bedbugs have been shown to be immune to certain types of insecticides? Or that  they have a tendency  to reproduce quickly?   This virtual invincibility gives them the ability to spread their infestations rapidly  throughout the surrounding areas. Removing them permanently will require the trusted services of an experienced Atlanta pest control company.

Bedbugs in Atlanta have made a resurgence lately and are being seen in college dormitories, hotel rooms, apartment complexes, nursing homes, and hospitals all over  metro Atlanta and its surrounding areas. Surprising, these infestations are not a result of unsanitary living conditions. In truth, housekeeping cannot prevent a bedbug problem.  These vampire like insects are not only found in beds and mattress,  but also under  furniture and  behind headboards;  anywhere where they can retire unmolested and a food source is nearby. It is impossible for a  normal person to find and destroy  all of their hiding places. Bed bugs infestations will need the help of  professional Atlanta pest control technicians to help alleviate a problem of this magnitude.

A house is more than four walls  and a roof, it is a home, a place of  refuge and  comfort  from the outside world. Therefore,  pests should not be in a homeowner's sanctuary, crawling over food, and eating awayat their  peace of mind. In order to relieve any big bug issue, a homeowner will require the help  of experienced pest control technicians to determine the best method to get rid of their particular pest problem.

Homeowners in metro Atlanta face many threats of the pest variety and can be overwhelmed with the sheer number of insect intruders that are trying to enter their homes. Don't lose hope, these invaders simply require effective pest control to

control their populations. Make a phone call to the local Atlanta pest control technician today to solve all bug related issues.

This article gives some information about spiders, including all the creepy crawlers within the Atlanta area.

  2. Spiders can be found on every continent of the world except Antarctica.
  3. A spider's body consists of:
a cephalothorax with eyes, mouth parts two jaws and a pair of pedipalps, and four pairs of jointed legs and an abdomen connected to the cephalothorax by a narrow pedicel. The entire body is covered by a tough protective exoskeleton and the body has sensory hairs growing from the skin.

Mosquitoes: Why You Should Call a Professional

2/20/2014

Picture
What was once only a minor nuisance at backyard gatherings and drive-ins is now the bearer of genuine danger and misery. Mosquitoes throughout the Alpharetta and Atlanta areas are known to carry diseases communicable to humans. Solutions available to consumers are no match for the methods used by professional Alpharetta pest control companies.

Disease

You don't have to be a Latin scholar to understand the issues, but some of the tongue-twisting mosquito problems Alpharetta pest control companies can conquer are as follows:

  • Anopheles quadrimaculatus--This mosquito, prevalent throughout the Southeast, carries malaria, which officially was wiped out from the United States in the 1950s, but still appears in local outbreaks
  • Aedes aegypti to Uranotaenia sapphirina--These are the first and last mosquito species in a list of more than 40 known to carry West Nile Virus in the United States
  • La Crosse Encephalitis--Georgia reported 27 cases of this mosquito-borne disease since 1964. How comfortable are you with those odds?
  • St. Louis Encephalitis--This disease carried by mosquitoes has, fortunately, struck only five Georgians since 1964.
Discomfort

Your family most likely will not contract a horrible illness from mosquito bites, but that does not make the bites any less irritating. The itch, the raw skin, and sometimes the bleeding puts a damper on summer fun and outdoor activities.

Professional Strength

The repellents you spray or slather on will usually keep mosquitoes away, but Alpharetta pest control companies have the training, equipment and licenses to use insecticides far more sophisticated and focused than what you can buy in a store.

A professional integrated pest management plan means eradicating mosquitoes throughout their life cycle, from breeding grounds to on the wing. Getting rid of standing water, damp areas and animal wastes helps cut down on larvae. But there is only so much you as an Alpharetta homeowner can do.

A professional pest control company can help deal with mosquitoes coming onto your property from other locations. The company can show you how to protect horses, family pets and livestock without chemicals harmful to the animals. Your Alpharetta pest control professional can advise you on using natural and human-made deterrents to keep your backyard barbecue cool, calm and comfortable. And you can relax, knowing you, your children and your beloved pets are protected from airborne disease from those menacing mosquitoes.

Alpharretta Pest Control

Many people are looking for general pest control in Alpharetta Georgia, and are worried about doing the task themselves, versus hiring a professional.

While it is possible to do it oneself, there are a myriad of choices out there, and not all of them work for the same pests.  A professional will assess the situation, noting the types of pests in the home, and will then specially treat the home for said pests.  With a professional, there is a guarantee that the pests will not come back in a specific time period, and if they do, the professionals come back and retreat.

For those worried about pets, and pest control, there are a number of pest control products on the market that are actually very harmful to domestic pets, and these can even cause death if eaten (oftentimes, dogs can choke on ant or roach traps, or get upset stomachs from eating poison).

Professional pesticides, however, are typically administered at just a one percent concentrate, which are effective enough to kill small insects, but pose no threats to animals or people.  Additionally, the droplets do not remain in the air long enough to be a threat to breathing.

Even the residue that is left behind is only toxic to bugs, not your pets.

Those who are looking for general pest control in Alpharetta, Georgia, who want to make sure their pets are kept safe from harmful chemicals or traps, should consider calling a professional.

Mosquitoes in Alpharetta, Georgia

Picture
Many people complain about the mosquitoes in Alpharetta, Georgia.  No matter where one lives in the area, these pests seem to come out in abundance.

Mosquitoes are actually part of the same group as the true flies, Diptera (and sometimes they too are confused for one another).  They can actually grow up to 9 mm in size.

It is possible to have an infestation of these pests, and if that occurs, it is important to take action, quickly, as they can carry disease that can affect both humans and domestic animals.

Signs of an Infestation

For those wondering whether or not they have a true mosquito infestation, look for the sounds of the females buzzing, and of course, note the increase of bites on the body.

People do have different reactions to mosquito bites, due to the fact that everyone is allergic in different ways.  Some might feel only a mild irritation, while some people are prone to intense inflammation and swelling.

Signs of the immature mosquitoes are finding them in standing water (this can include the trays or dishes under houseplants).

Getting Rid of Them

A number of pesticides, typically sprays, are available at home repair or hardware stores.  Or, call a professional to eradicate all signs of these pests.  Other ideas are mosquito zappers, which hang outside the home, in areas of high traffic.  The only problem with zappers is that they do little or nothing to control the actual population of these pests, and do not address their breeding areas.

For Alpharetta pest control, and more importantly, protection from these flying pests, consider consulting a professional.

Pest Control in Brookhaven, Georgia

Like many places, Brookhaven, Georgia is home to a large number of household pests. Some of the most common of these include cockroaches, ants, mosquitoes, termites, and fleas. While professional services may be required, there are measures you can take to protect your family and your home from these common pests.

1. Cockroaches

Cockroaches pose serious health risks to your family. Be sure your home is well sealed and even the smallest cracks are filled so they cannot find their way in. If you do find yourself with a cockroach problem, contact a Brookhaven pest control professional right away. Due to their resilient nature, this pest can be hard to get rid of alone.

2. Ants

Ant colonies can be hard to exterminate, but do have a weakness when it comes to sweet ant poison, something a Brookhaven pest control service can provide for you. For ants that come into your home looking for a free meal, keep these pests out of your home by doing your best to seal your home and keeping crumbs and food messes to a minimum.

3. Mosquitoes

Georgia is home to 25 kinds of mosquitoes, all of which carry very serious diseases such as the West Nile Virus. The best thing you can do to protect your home from mosquitoes is eliminating  standing water  on your property, keep pools clean and chlorinated, and use repellents on your bodies and on your property.

4. Termites

Termites are a common issue for many homeowners in Georgia due to the warm, moist climate. Keep your home safe from termites by trimming shrubs away from the foundation of your house, move mulch away from the foundation, do not leave firewood near your home and store off the ground, fix leaky pipes, seal the cracks and holes in your foundation, and eliminate standing water near your home

5. Fleas

Fleas lay their eggs in your home, in furniture, pet beds, beds, carpeting, etc. To avoid flea problems in your home be sure to wash these on a regular basis and treat your animals with flea and tick medication, flea collars, medicated shampoos, and other remedies. Outside your home, keep the lawn mowed, trim vegetation, and clean out leaves and debris from your flowerbeds to allow the soil to dry easily.  Your property can be treated with insecticides. Other ways to cut down on a risk of flea infestation is by.

GUTTER PROTECTION

Did you know one of the best pest control methods to guarding your gutters from attracting nests with critters attached to them, is a preventative measure called LEAFPROOF®

Perhaps the best gutter protection on the market.  Why?  Because they are the only gutter protection service to carry the patented "S" bend design.  This design is key to the whole system, and here's how it works.

"S" BEND DESIGN
This design uses what is known as surface tension (a term that means that water clings to the surface of what it's flowing over) to your advantage. The “S” bend causes the water flow to reverse and churn, which slows the momentum of the water as it comes off the roof. The “S” bend also permits the portion of the Leafproof panel which covers the gutter, to be installed at a fairly level slope. This reduces the speed of the water even more. As a result, when the water flow reaches Leafproof’s® water channel, the water flow once again reverses and drains into the gutter.

WHY YOU WANT IT

So, what are all the benefits of Leafproof®?
  1. They have been known to keep pests like rodents and birds from building a nest on your home.  Potentially saving the homeowner a LOT of money.

  2. They can keep leaves and other debris from collecting in your gutters.

  3. You don't have to worry about cleaning the gutters anymore. Thanks to the patented "S" bend design.

  4. Can save lots of money when it comes to building maintenance repairs and labor costs.

  5. LeafProof® is the only gutter protection product on the market today that: fits existing gutters; can be maintained from the ground; is not screwed into the roof or fascia; and is securely installed under the first row of shingles.

This Spring and Summer call one of the only Atlanta pest control companies offering gutter protection to the max.  We install it for you so you can be sure that you have the maximum protection.  Call us now!

Commercial Pest Control in Marietta, Georgia

12/9/2013

Picture
It doesn't matter if the pest problem comes in the form of ants, mice, or cockroaches. As soon as the pesky little critters move into your residence or your business they need to be dealt with. Some of these pests carry diseases that can be harmful to humans.
Pests also have the ability to do a great deal of damage to buildings, particularly if the population has a chance to multiply.
Pacific Pest Solutions

When it comes to getting rats out of a building, Pacific Pest Solutions is one of the best commercial pest control companies in the Marietta area. The professionals will look at the building and come up with a way to remove the rats from the premise that won't harm anyone else. They'll also determine how the rats are getting into the building and seal the space. After the rats have been removed from the building, Pacific will clean up any mess the flying rodents made. Pacific Pest Solutions provides a variety of pest removal services.

PPS Does Fleas

Anyone who has house pets runs the risk of having a flea infestation. Giving the pet a flea bath takes care of the insects that are on the pet but won't get rid of the insects that remain in the house. Again, Pacific Pest Solutions has a friendly and professional team who will come into the building and quickly kill all of the fleas. They'll also advise you on things you can do to prevent future infestations.

A Variety of Services

Pacific Pest Solutions provides a variety of services. In addition to servicing homes, the company also provides  commercial pest control in the Marietta area. They are considered the best company to deal with when it comes to termite problems. In addition to handling destructive insects, anyone who has squirrels or rodents trying to move into a building can contact Pacific Pest Solutions and take advantage of the company's rodent exclusion service.

Atlanta Exclusion Services

12/9/2013

You have probably noticed rats and squirrels in your attic, gutters, or basement during the colder time of the year.  As the temperature drops, these critters seek shelter.  If you need an exclusion service, Pacific Pest Solutions is the company to call.

While searching for the best exclusion services in Marietta, it’s important to consider whether or not the services meet a certain checklist of both basic business and industry standards. Look for pest control services in Marietta that meet most (if not all) of these benchmarks:

Consider exclusion services in Marietta that specialize just in pest control. The old adage, “Jack of all trades, master of none” applies to many industries, including exclusion services. A company that focuses 100% of its attention, time, staff training, and equipment on “all things exclusion related” can then confidently provide consumers with the right information, the best solutions, and the various options available.

Consider exclusion companies in Marietta that offer free estimates.

The initial inspection of a potential pest control problem and the coinciding estimate on the time and investment it will cost to rectify that problem should be free. If an exclusion service is not willing to come out to the home or business, free of charge, to access and estimate the potential pest problem, find one that will! To help make an informed decision, it’s simply common sense to get more than one quote.

Consider exclusion services in Marietta that have references.

Although it is not possible for any established, service-oriented company to be in business for years without some customer somewhere complaining about something, the majority of happy, satisfied clients should always outweigh the number of disgruntled customers.  Truly, word of mouth is the best (or worst) form of advertising. The same holds true for the exclusion series industry.

Finally, find exclusion companies in Marietta that employ uniformly-dressed professionals and use top-of-the-line equipment.

Well-maintained company vehicles along with pest control workers who wear uniforms and identification badges reflects back on the business. Companies that invest in themselves – through training and providing their employees with top-of-the-line equipment, tools, and vehicles help ensure they are not simply a fly-by-night business that will be gone before the pests are.
